Last night, it was basically the same routine, though we experimented with J going in to try to bounce him back to sleep without a feeding. No go. The kid does need to feed every couple hours.
So the books were really helpful. Without wanting to read them, I wouldn't have been inspired to try putting him in his crib! If I find any useful content in the books, I'll be sure to share it.
DJ wouldn't sleep by himself before. Maybe it's because he's older now, or maybe it's because we've focused on getting him more day-time sleep. His fussy-time has shrunk and he's more interactive since we focused on that.
He does almost all of his daytime sleeping in the Moby. I'd like to transition him to something else. The best candidate seems to be the bouncy seat:
Sleep is hard. It is absolutely painful to hear your baby cry, knowing you could pick them up and ease the crying.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter slept with me till 1 month, then bassinet till 2 months, then in her crib at 3 months. We have been very consistent with her own crib or bed and it has paid off. She generally goes to bed well )she 3.5 now) in her own bed. Other things we have not stuck with and have screwed ourselves. :)
Peep still sleeps with me, but I honestly think she doesn't need to anymore. However, she still needs to be rocked or nursed to sleep. This idea of putting a baby down on a bed and having it fall asleep... well, I have no concept of that!!
ReplyDeleteYou post title is funny-- I was actually pretty shocked that one of these books would really be useful. Turns out, the jury is still out (for you). I have Pantley's book, and it basically says that there isn't much you can do before 2 months other than start training them not to have to nurse to sleep.
But let me know if you DO find either of these books helpful. Tips are wanted!
P is slowly easing up on fuss time, too. Hallelujia! We actually made a roast chicken dinner the other night, AND ate it! Until now, I've been wolfing down bites of chinese take-out or some such nonsense.
We have Pantley's book for both infants and toddlers and have found it to be very helpful! Hannah is now sleeping in the bassinette and Hal sleeps by herself in her big girl bed. Lots of great tips, just need to do what works.
ReplyDeleteI've read the Pantley book a few times and found that it does have some good suggestions. I think you're smart to try to get DJ to nap in places other than the Moby, but I would only add that the time goes by really, really fast. At only 5 months, Wes won't nap in there anymore. I miss it. So enjoy those cozy sweet naps while you can.
ReplyDeleteI love his little fingers in that picture :).
ReplyDeleteGlad you're getting some help with the sleeping!
Awwwww. No advice. But he is awfully sweet:)
ReplyDeletePerhaps they will be useful again when DJ needs something to chew on! Keep sharing your successes and challenges--the info is solid gold.
ReplyDeleteI'm late to the party again....sorry it's been so long since I checked in! So glad to hear DJ is doing so well! getting big! I'd be surprised if he fits in 12 mo at 12 months though.... :) You might have a speed growing baby on your hands! Big hugs from the other coast!
